Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about MORATHEN’s small group Mount Olympus hiking packages — carefully designed for non-technical routes and meaningful mountain experiences.

What makes MORATHEN different from other Mount Olympus tour providers?
MORATHEN specializes exclusively in small group, non-technical hiking routes on Mount Olympus. We limit our groups to 8 participants to ensure safety, personal attention, and a calm mountain atmosphere. Our routes focus on well-established trails such as Prionia–Spilios Agapitos Refuge and Skala peak, avoiding climbing sections that require ropes or advanced mountaineering skills. Every itinerary is led by certified mountain guides with deep knowledge of Olympus’ ecology, history, and weather patterns.
Are the MORATHEN routes suitable for beginners?
Yes. Our non-technical routes are designed for active beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. No climbing equipment or prior mountaineering experience is required. Participants should be comfortable hiking 5–7 hours per day with elevation gain up to 1,000 meters. Before departure, we provide a detailed preparation guide covering fitness tips, packing recommendations, and altitude awareness.
What is included in a MORATHEN small group package?
Each package includes certified mountain guide services, refuge accommodation, safety briefings, route planning, national park entry coordination, and emergency support. We also provide detailed pre-trip consultation and 24/7 communication during your hike. Meals at refuges and transfers from Litochoro can be added depending on the selected package. Transparent pricing ensures there are no hidden costs.
When is the best time to hike Mount Olympus with MORATHEN?
Our hiking season runs from late May to early October. The most stable weather conditions typically occur between June and September. July and August offer clear skies and extended daylight, while June and September provide cooler temperatures and fewer visitors. MORATHEN continuously monitors mountain forecasts and adjusts departure times to ensure optimal safety conditions.
Is reaching the summit part of the non-technical package?
Our standard non-technical package includes reaching Skala Peak (2,882 m), which offers panoramic views without exposed climbing sections. The true highest peak, Mytikas, involves a short but technical scramble and is not included in our beginner-friendly itineraries. This ensures that participants enjoy a safe and rewarding summit experience without specialized equipment.
How does MORATHEN ensure safety during the hike?
Safety is central to every MORATHEN departure. Our guides are trained in wilderness first aid and alpine risk assessment. We conduct pace management, hydration monitoring, and structured rest intervals. Emergency procedures are clearly communicated at the start of each hike. Additionally, group sizes are intentionally small to allow close supervision and immediate response if conditions change.
